Custom Peripheral Vascular Model
Customize your tortuosity
The Challenge
How can you easily test the navigation of a PICC line into the heart in countless clinical scenarios?
Model Design and Development
Pulse MDM produced a vascular model with targeted vessels made in a soft clear material. A peg board type base along with peg supports of varying heights allow for the custom positioning of the vessels to replicate an infinite number of tortious paths. The printed arm and thoracic cavity artwork give context to the vessels and provides a guide to keep the vessels within the body.
Model Benefit
The main use is for this model is testing prototype devices in laboratory environments. Using a custom-made model in device development significantly reduces risk before it is used in humans. Custom anatomy models can be used for FDA verification to show that you are fulfilling the requirements you set. You can test to make sure you are making the correct device; it meets the needs of the end user and assure your regulatory stakeholders that the device is safe.

Pulse MDM does not charge for model concepts or the conversations around them so there is no risk to see how we can help you to tell your story in the most engaging and memorable way possible.
Procedure Overview
Peripherally Inserted Central Venous Catheter (PICC) is an intravenous catheter that is inserted through the skin, into a vein in the arm, in the region above the elbow and below the shoulder. The catheter is advanced into the body until the internal tip of the catheter is in the superior vena cava, one of the central venous system veins that carries blood to the heart. This tube may have one or two openings, called lumens, that are used to deliver medication.
